ORLANDO, FL
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit opened in 2009 to thunderous applause and has thrilled guests from all over the world since. But it seems the surly promoter for this concert is giving them the go-home signal to wrap up this set. Since it's opening, like an aging punk band past it's prime, Rockit has dealt with delayed starts, rough performances and concerns of fatigue from it's manufacturer Maurer. But still considered a marquee attraction strong enough to even draw complete psychopaths away from the fun of Halloween horror nights.
Much like a local band, it was only fun for a few minutes before it became painful and could really only be experienced if you didn't have to go to work the next day so you could recover. We asked park maintenance chief Frederick Flintstone what the plans were to disassemble the ride without interrupting park operations. "I have a 42 person crew going in and re-tightening every fastener all day long after each ride. Without our constant attention the whole thing would fall apart. So we’re gonna do just that. August 18th, we're all taking the day off to go to Legoland, except for Ride Ops. And they’re just gonna run 5 or 6 trains through. That ought a do it. Should be rubble by then."
When asked if there were any plans to re-home the coaster Fred responded "We've had offers from multiple military organizations across the globe with the intent to repurpose it as a POW torture resistance and endurance device. In each offer it's been specifically requested to remove all tracks except "Waterloo" by ABBA."
Be sure to catch Rockit's farewell tour before August 18th.
